5 of the Best Animated Disney Movies for 2-Year-Olds

Toddlers have short attention spans. Choose an age-appropriate Disney film that will keep your 2-year-old’s attention.

Bring the magic of Disney to your TV screen. From a bear all stuffed with fluff to a mischievous young boy who can fly, Disney movies are chock full of fun storylines, vibrant animations, and spirited characters.

If you’re looking for a new movie to add to your home library, Disney offers dozens of animated classics that are suitable for children as young as 2 years old. You can even make the movie watching process more fun by creating a movie theater-like setting and encouraging your toddler to get up and be active.

“Make watching a movie a special event by putting soft pillows and blankets on the floor and darkening the room,” says Lisa Hanson and Heather Kempskie, authors of The Playdate Busy Book. “Make up some fun rules for your viewing time. For instance, whenever a song begins, everyone has to get up and dance. Or if there’s a bird in the movie, everyone has to pretend to fly.”

Best Disney Movies for 2-Year-Olds: What to Look for

Not all movies designed for children are suitable for young toddlers. It’s important to consider all aspects of a film before allowing a 2-year-old to watch. Learn what features to look for in a Disney movie for toddlers.

Short Length

Many toddlers are not able to sit for an extended period of time to watch a movie. If possible, choose a film that spans no more than 90 minutes. If your 2 year old is not able to sit that long, consider watching it in two separate parts.

Age-Appropriate

Not all films with “cute” sounding names or pictures on the cover are appropriate for children. Check the movie’s rating to help determine if it’s suitable for your toddler. Avoid movies with frightening scenes, obscene language, adult jokes, or inappropriate storylines or animations.

Simple Plot

Toddlers may have trouble following a plot in any movie. However, they can still enjoy the music and characters. To make watching a little easier on your child, choose a film with a plot intended for young audiences.
