The microwave is at the top of my list for worst chores ever. Food is constantly being spilled (and never cleaned), resulting in dried-on splatters. While still not a fun chore, loosening the gunk can make cleaning your microwave a whole lot easier. An easy way to do this is by squeezing some lemon juice into a bowl of water. Next, drop the rinds into the water and microwave for 8 minutes. Let stand for an additional 5 minutes, then wipe the microwave clean starting at the top and working your way down.

Your kids’ stuffed animals looking a little grimy? It takes just minutes to throw a whole load of plush toys into the wash. To avoid damage to your little ones’ favorite possessions, place the toys into a mesh laundry bag or zippered pillowcase. Wash with regular detergent and cold water on the gentle setting. Fur can melt with heat so if possible, let the toys air dry.

Cleaning electronics can be tricky. You don’t want to use sprays or damp rags that could pose a safety hazard or cause damage to your items. Instead, use a dryer sheet to quickly remove dust from your electronics. Dryer sheets will also prevent dust from resettling as quickly.

Your mother-in-law just called and will be at your house momentarily. Instead of breaking out the vacuum, use a lint roller to quickly remove pet hair, crumbs, and other loose debris from your furniture. Lint rollers are small enough to fit easily under cushions and can even be used on wood and glass surfaces.
I clean my blinds far less often then I should, mostly due to the amount of time it takes. While there’s no magic trick to get your blinds cleaned in seconds, a pair of socks can drastically cut down your cleaning time. Just slide your hand into an old sock or glove and dip your fingers into a bowl of white vinegar. Run your fingers along each side of the slats to remove dust.

There’s nothing worse than finding an old bag of lettuce in the back of your crisper bin. Cut down on cleaning by lining your fruit and vegetable bins with paper towels. If something gets spilled, just toss the soiled paper towels and replace them with new. If you’re worried about paper waste, use old plastic place mats cut down to size instead.

You don’t want to spend hours on your hands and knees, scrubbing the inside of your greasy oven. You also don’t want to use harsh cleaning products that will emit dangerous gasses into your kitchen. The solution? Baking soda and vinegar. Mix one part water with one part baking soda and one part vinegar in an oven-safe pan or bowl. Dab some of the solution on the bottom of the oven. Place the bowl of leftover solution onto an oven rack. Run your own at 100 degrees for 45 minutes, and then wipe the loosened gunk.

We love when our little artists’ create masterpieces for us to display on the fridge. When these masterpieces end up on the floor or wall? Not so much. The good news is that you can remove marker off wood surfaces like tables and floors in a pinch. Apply a glob of toothpaste to a damp rag and gently buff the stain in small circles. The grittiness of the toothpaste eliminates the marker stain in a matter of seconds.
